Ibrahima Niang alias Piniang was born in 1976 in Dakar. He studied at the National School of Art in Dakar (E.N.A) and did a course in multimedia and video animation at Pictoon Studio in Dakar. Painter, video and installation maker, illustrator, Piniang is a lecturer in computer graphics at ENA of Dakar. His work has been shown at the Museum of Malmö in Sweden, the Blachère Foundation in Apt, Dapper Museum in Paris and Princessehof Museum in Leeuwarden in Holland. He received awards from the Blachère Foundation in 2006 and at the 5th Film “Festival de Quartier” of Dakar in 2003 with « No War No News ».
« Ndakaru » : On Soumbedioune bay, a district of Dakar, the streets comes to life slowly; a team of boys playing on the beach, traders awaiting the first canoes bringing fish to sell, a herd of sheep travelling through the streets and across the way, customers competing for places in the “cars rapides”. Suddenly, a siren sound is heard, sparking panic amongst hawkers occupying the street.
